Villarreal coach Fran Escriba gets two-game ban after sending-off vs. Real

Villarreal coach Fran Escriba has been given a two-match touchline ban after he was sent to the stands for dissent during Sunday's 3-2 home defeat to Real Madrid.

Escriba voiced his anger after referee Jesus Gil Manzano awarded a controversial second-half penalty to Madrid, converted by Cristiano Ronaldo.

"In the 73rd minute, coach Francisco Escriba was sent off for questioning my decisions by shouting and gesticulating and ignoring the indications given by the assistant and the fourth referee," the referee's report said.

"Once sent off, he delayed his departure from the technical area by at least one minute despite being warned several times that he needed to leave the zone."

After the Spanish Royal Football Federation (RFEF) competition committee announced the punishment, Villarreal told ESPN FC they would not contest it.

Escriba will watch his team's away game at bottom side Osasuna on Wednesday and Saturday's home game against Espanyol from the stands.

His side are currently sixth in La Liga with 39 points from 24 games.
