Chapecoense hero visits Real Madrid training, meets James Rodriguez

A Colombian boy described as an "angel" for helping survivors in Chapecoense's plane crash in November has visited Real Madrid's training ground and been greeted by his fellow countryman James Rodriguez.

Johan Alexis Ramirez became known in Colombia as the "Nino Angel" (Angel Boy) after he helped the rescue team at the site of the Chapecoense disaster, in which there were just six survivors and 71 players, staff and directors from the Brazilian club died.

The Real Madrid Foundation invited the 15-year-old to Saturday's 2-0 La Liga win against Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he was also welcomed at training on Monday morning at the club's Valdebebas facility.

"Johan Alexis Ramirez, known as the Angel Boy [el Nino Angel] for the help he gave guiding the rescue teams to the place where the Chapecoense plane crashed, fulfilled the dream of meeting his idols at Real Madrid City," read a club statement. "Before training began, Johan was photographed with Zidane and the players. His compatriot James Rodriguez gave him a personalised shirt."

The youngster told Madrid's official website that it had been "very emotional" to meet Colombia captain James in this way.

"James represents all Colombians," Ramirez said. "It's very emotional and something very nice for me. This shirt is a very nice gift that I will have for a lifetime, it's a pleasure for me."
