Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata poised for return after taking part in training

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata looks set to return in Wednesday's Champions League game at home to Borussia Dortmund, but Cristiano Ronaldo sat out training on Monday.

Madrid have already qualified for the knockout stages but must beat current leaders Dortmund to top Group F and be seeded for the next round.

Avoiding defeat would also see Zinedine Zidane's team match the club record of 34 unbeaten games in all competitions, set in 1988-89.

Morata has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Spain last month.

Danilo and Fabio Coentrao, who both missed the trip to Barcelona with minor fitness issues, also took part in the training session.

Although Ronaldo trained indoors on Monday, the Portugal captain is expected to be ready to face Dortmund.

"Real Madrid returned to training and began to prepare for Wednesday's game against Borussia Dortmund," a club statement said.

"Morata, Danilo and Coentrao took part. Cristiano Ronaldo worked alone, while [Gareth] Bale continued his recovery process."

James Rodriguez, an unused substitute in the Clasico, was also part of the session.

Marca reported that he had trained alone after the Madrid team returned to the Spanish capital on Saturday night after drawing at Barcelona.

Madrid play Deportivo La Coruna at the Bernebau on Saturday.
