RB Leipzig's Timo Werner will not be punished for dive - German FA

The German FA (DFB) has said it will not investigate the dive by Timo Werner that won RB Leipzig a penalty in their 2-1 win over Schalke on Saturday.

Werner went to ground as he touched the ball past Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann, who was incredulous to see referee Bastian Dankert point to the spot and then book him for a foul.

But the head of the DFB control committee, Anton Nachreiner, told kicker the organisation would not look into the incident further and added: "It was a referee's decision."

Werner said he tried to tell the official that Fahrmann had not touched him, and apologised for what he said was "clearly" a dive.

The forward and Fahrmann both confirmed after the match that he had tried to tell Dankert he had not been touched.

Those statements allowed him to escape without punishment by the DFB.

Nachreiner said the dive could only have been investigated "if Mr Werner had answered untruthfully when questioned by the referee. But that was not the case."
