Lahm: We were lucky to draw

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm believes his side wasted the chance to go top of Group F after salvaging a 1-1 draw with Valencia on Tuesday.

Valencia were reduced to ten men went Antonio Barragan received his second yellow card after 33 minutes, but they still managed to take the lead through Sofiane Feghouli.

Only a late Thomas Muller strike earned Bayern a point and Lahm believes the Germans should have done better with their numerical advantage.

"For a long time we played against ten men," he told uefa.com. "But we often took the wrong decisios. In the end, I think we were lucky to get the draw."

Valencia midfielder Feghouli was pleased with the Spanish side's performance, despite his opening goal being cancelled out.

"It was a fantastic match," he told TVE. "We have more than matched a great team, and deserved to qualify from the group. I gave as much as I could for the team. We wanted to win for the fans, but we have to be satisfied with the draw."

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes had a more scathing view of the match, admitting that they must improve if they want to challenge for the Champions League.

"Valencia defended very well. We could not find space, which gives us homework for the next match," he said. "They played very well, but it was a very even match.

"They showed that their players can play at their best. Bayern can and will improve. Lille's win tonight might have influenced our performance, which is perhaps why we didn't play at 100 per cent.

"Valencia are one of the three biggest clubs in Spain and they are never easy to play against. They put in a very good performance."
