Cesc back on the scoresheet

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas continued his goalscoring form of late, sealing his side's 2-0 Champions League win over Benfica.

Fabregas has scored three goals in his last two matches for Barcelona, breaking a brief hiatus from the scorers' sheet.

"I've always been calm about it, sometimes it doesn't go in, but now I've scored two goals with my left foot – I've never done that before," Fabregas said.

"We're playing better each time we play, they started off strong and we struggled a bit but in the second half we controlled the game and it was a completely different match."

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring for Barca with a close range finish from a low Lionel Messi cross, and he is looking to make his mark as a regular starter.

"I'm gaining confidence and I have to continue like this. We have another important game on Sunday and I want to continue like this," Sanchez said.

"We played against a good team, and we've never won here before. I'm pleased that I scored."

The match was marred by an injury to Barcelona captain Carles Puyol, with Fabregas acknowledging the void that will now be left in the Barca defence.

"It's unfortunate. Your body just feels bad, he's so fundamental to the team that it makes it more painful. But he's one of the strongest guys I've ever known, I'm sure he'll be back stronger than ever," Fabregas said.
