McCall relieved

Stuart McCall was relieved after Motherwell ended their long wait for a home win with a 3-2 success over Ross County.

Keith Lasley's goal eight minutes from time earned Well their first victory at Fir Park since the beginning of September.

Rocco Quinn unleashed a sensational 30-yard strike to give the visitors the lead after 17 minutes, however, their opener was soon cancelled out as Michael Higdon headed home Chris Humphrey's pin-point delivery eight minutes later.

Nicky Law capitalised on some slack possession to fire the hosts ahead in the opening minute of the second half, but County responded positively and Quinn hammered home at the second time of asking to level.

Both sides showed a determination to grab a winner and Lasley clinched the game for Motherwell when he flashed an effort beyond Mark Brown with eight minutes remaining.

"I thought in the first-half we played some very good stuff and didn't take the chances we created," said McCall. "The second goal was a great lift, but then for some reason we stopped playing - I'm not sure if was anxiety as we hadn't won at home for a while.

"It was a big three points for us, especially with the big cup replay against Aberdeen on Tuesday."

McCall was full of praise for deputy goalkeeper Lee Hollis, who produced a wonderful last-gasp save to ensure three points for Motherwell. However, despite his heroics, McCall admits Darren Randolph is likely to replace Hollis for Tuesday's William Hill Scottish Cup replay with Aberdeen.

"It would have been cruel as we have lost late goals already this season," McCall added. "I have said to the lads that if they come in for four or five games and play well they will stay in the team, however, if you come in for one or two games then and replace someone who is playing well then it's likely I will take you back out.

"We gave Lee a new contract in the summer and that was on the basis of his performances in training and in reserve matches.

"I would have thought Randolph will be back in goal on Tuesday, but Lee has shown he is a ready made replacement should Darren move elsewhere at any stage."

Ross County boss Derek Adams felt poor defending cost his side at Fir Park.

County travel to Inverness for a Scottish Cup replay on Tuesday evening and Adams is adamant his side must perform better to stand a chance of progressing to the last 16.

"We didn't do well enough in the game to merit taking anything from the game," said Adams. "If we defend as kamikaze as we did today then we won't get a result against a team like Motherwell.

"We have a bit of naivety about us at the moment and if we play like we did today against Inverness then we will be out the cup. We created openings and had chances but we have handed the victory to Motherwell."
