Spurs confident on Adebayor

Harry Redknapp remains confident Tottenham will be able to land unwanted Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

It is believed Spurs are seeking to complete a loan deal for the former Arsenal and Real Madrid front-man, with Adebayor on the outer with manager Roberto Mancini at City. Following Spurs' 5-0 thrashing of Hearts in the Europa League, Redknapp was reticent to be drawn on the issue but suggested a deal for Adebayor was imminent.

"I honestly don't know [about Adebayor]. The chairman deals with that, I have never spoke to the player or Manchester City or anybody there.

"The chairman deals with that sort of thing at boardroom level. If anything's going to happen, he'll ring and tell me. I think it has been progressing along. It seems like it probably will happen but I am not 100% sure."

Redknapp is also hopeful star midfielder and long-time Chelsea target Luka Modric will take to the pitch in Spurs' Premier League opener against reigning champions Manchester United on Monday evening.

"Luka Modric could be OK, other than that, no [others]," Redknapp said. "I had five midfield players unavailable [against Hearts]. I don't have too many other players. There is nobody else back home."

Meanwhile, newly appointed Hearts manager Paulo Sergio was less than impressed with his side's performance against Tottenham, as the Scottish Premier League side conceded three goals inside the opening 30 minutes at Tynecastle Stadium.

"They were too relaxed in the first half," he said. "They didn't play. They just watched Tottenham players play. We improved in the second half, were more aggressive on the ball. In the first half we played like we had bought tickets to watch the match."
