Erik Lamela is an even money chance to play for the Giallorossi next season, according to Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini.
Italian reports on Friday suggested the River Plate star was to undergo a medical in Rome before putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with the club. However, Sabatini was cautious when speaking of the potential transfer.
"The deal is not done yet," Sabatini told Corriere dello Sport. "We cannot make it official even though there is optimism in the air and I feel it as well.
"There is a strong possibility that he will come to Roma but he is still a River Plate player. Right now I would say there is a 50% chance he will come to Roma.''
Roma have been competing with several clubs for the South American teenager since River Plate's shock relegation, including fellow Serie A sides Napoli, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
