The Seattle Sounders climbed to fourth in the MLS Western Conference by claiming a 1-0 win over 10-man Colorado Rapids, but lost star midfielder Steve Zakuani to a potentially season-ending injury.
• Thursday: Henry at the double
The Rapids were dealt a blow in just the third minute when Brian Mullan saw red after a reckless tackle on Zakuani which saw the Sounders man leave the field on a stretcher.
A loud crack was heard through television microphones and reports confirmed Zakuani has been diagnosed with a broken leg and will undergo emergency surgery.
Despite their numerical advantage Seattle only managed the one goal, with Freddy Montero finding the net after 19 minutes.
Seattle remain undefeated in the past five games after starting the new season with two losses.
