Former Sunderland and Ipswich manager Roy Keane is understood to be in Australia for discussions with Melbourne Victory over their vacant coaching role.

The Manchester United great has been out of work since being sacked by Ipswich in January and Victory have been searching for a new coach since parting ways with foundation boss Ernie Merrick last month.

Keane was spotted at fellow A-League club Sydney FC's Asian Champions League fixture with Shanghai Shenhua in Sydney on Wednesday night and he is reportedly set for talks with the club on Thursday.

The appointment of Keane would be a high-profile coup Victory, who are in the middle of their own Champions League campaign. The former Ireland international's wage demands are thought to be a potential stumbling block although the Australian lifestyle and the opportunity for a fresh start abroad could appeal to Keane.

A club spokesman was cagey when speaking to the Melbourne Herald: ``We won't be commenting on speculation regarding the coaching position. Suffice to say, we still have a long way to go in the process of appointing a coach.''
