Rakitic seals Sevilla move

Schalke midfielder Ivan Rakitic has sealed a move to Spanish side Sevilla.

Rakitic, who is out of contract in the summer, has turned down a new deal to stay in Germany and signed a four-yeal deal for a fee believed to be around 1.3 million.

"I had a lot of options, many clubs in other leagues asked about me, but I wanted to come to Spain and Sevilla seemed to be the best choice," Rakitic told the club's official website.

The 22-year-old is viewed as one of the most exciting young attacking players around and is already a Croatia international with a host of experience. He joined Schalke from FC Basel in 2007 and made 95 league outings for the club.

Sevilla are also close to completing a switch for Universidad Catolica and Chile midfielder Gary Medel. The midfielder has been on loan at Boca Juniors and has passed a medical at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Meanwhile, Rakitic's former club Schalke have moved to add to their squad, by sealing a deal for Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan.

The Germans have yet to confirm the purchase, but Annan's club, Norwegian outfit Rosenborg, released a statement that the player will move on.

"I am happy on Anthony's behalf. He has been very close to a club change for a while now, so I understand his hunger to move on. We will have a little trouble when he leaves, but we will make do," Coach Jon Joensson told his team's official website.
