Avdic set to join Bremen

Werder Bremen are close to announcing their first new arrival this winter with Swedish striker Denni Avdic reportedly in the north German city to discuss terms and undergo a medical.

A fee with his current club Elfsborg has already been agreed, according to local reports, and the player should join his new team-mates at their training camp in Turkey later on Monday should he successfully pass a medical.

"An agreement is very probable,'' Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs told Bild.

Avdic should take the place of Hugo Almeida, who has just left Bremen for Besiktas.

The 22-year-old Sweden international scored 19 goals in 29 games last season to end the campaign as the Swedish league's top goalscorer.

He is likely to partner Claudio Pizarro in the Bremen attack during the second half of the Bundesliga season and the club hopes that his goals will help it move up from a disappointing 14th place and achieve the objective of a place in Europe next season.
