Fabregas sustained the injury in Arsenal's Champions League defeat at the hands of Braga in Portugal and will miss the Gunners' final group game against Partizan on Wednesday as they seek the win they need to guarantee a place in the knockout stages.

However, Fabregas is hopeful of ensuring that he is fit to play in the much-anticipated league meeting with United the following Monday.

"I'm happy to say everything is going according to plan with my rehabilitation," Fabregas said. "We've tried some new treatments and hopefully they can make a difference.

"My hamstrings are feeling good, and my body feels good and rested. The Manchester United game is the target, so hopefully we can make it happen."

Arsenal approach the game as league leaders thanks to a 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday. United were denied the chance to reclaim top spot as their game against Blackpool was postponed.
