Baxter leaves Finland post

Stuart Baxter has left his role as Finland coach but will stay on in a consulting role.

Baxter's contract with Finland has come to an end and, although it will not be renewed, he has agreed to help Olli Huttunen, who will take charge of the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifier against San Marino in an interim role.

"We have negotiated in good faith and have reached the conclusion that this is the best option," Finnish football chief Sauli Niinisto said. "Olli and Stuart have worked together for a long time, and Olli can do a good job against San Marino."

Baxter has been thought to be looking to leave the post for some time, with Finland having failed to gain a single point in their qualifying campaign so far.

"This will allow for the continuing development of Finnish football, and give me the opportunity to look ahead," he said.

Baxter, who was born in England but brought up in Scotland, has spent much of his management career in Nordic countries.
