ESPNsoccernet

Glentoran striker Matthew Burrows is in the running to receive a prestigious FIFA award after being named on the shortlist for the world goal of the year for his stunning strike against Portadown in October.

The 25-year-old's audacious jumping backheel volley ESPN Video came in the 92nd minute of Glentoran's Carling Premiership encounter with Portadown on October 5 and has since become an internet sensation, racking up over three million views on YouTube to date.

FIFA contacted the Irish FA to confirm the goal would be in the running for the Ballon d'Or - Puskas Award, with the winner to be selected from a shortlist of 10 at a ceremony in Zurich on January 10.

"This is a tremendous achievement for Matty Burrows, Glentoran and the Carling Premiership to be catapulted onto the world stage,'' read an Irish FA statement. All of the shortlisted goals will be available to view on the FIFA website later in November.
