Germany's Schweinsteiger to miss both qualifiers

Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been ruled out of his country's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan.

Schweinsteiger, 26, has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the world after a stellar performance for Germany at both Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. But he suffered an injury in Bayern's 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund at the weekend and even though he stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes, he will now not be available for his country's Group A games.

A statement on the German FA website read: ''The 83-times capped international suffered a capsular ligament tear to the tarsus region. Schweinsteiger was bent over during the game, then complained of severe discomfort in his right foot and underwent magnetic resonance imaging on Monday morning at Bayern, with national team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt,

''After the diagnosis, Schweinsteiger informed Germany coach Joachim Low by telephone that he is not available for the two European Championship qualifying matches.''
