Gunners handed Newcastle trip

ESPNsoccernet staff

After defeating bitter rivals Tottenham 4-1 in midweek, Arsenal have been drawn to face Newcastle in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

The Magpies were in the hat thanks to a brilliant 4-3 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and must now face another premier opponent from London in Arsene Wenger's Gunners.

Manchester United, who beat Aston Villa to take the trophy last season, face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford but Northampton Town, who sensationally knocked out Liverpool at Anfield, have been denied a glamour tie and will face Ipswich Town.

Cobblers manager Ian Sampson told Sky Sports: "We'll go to Ipswich and hopefully we can reproduce the form we've shown at Anfield and Reading. We've already knocked a Championship club out so we'll go to Ipswich and try and do the same thing." With Arsenal facing Newcastle, Aston Villa may feel that the draw is opening up for them and Gerard Houllier's side will be expected to win at home to Burnley, who defeated Premier League opposition in Bolton in the third round.

Birmingham, West Brom and Wigan face lower league opposition in Brentford, Leicester and Swansea respectively, while an all-Premier League encounter pits West Ham against Stoke City.

Ties to be played during week of October 25
Newcastle v Arsenal
Birmingham City v Brentford
Wigan Athletic v Swansea City
Aston Villa v Burnley
Leicester City v West Brom
Manchester United v Wolves
West Ham v Stoke City
Ipswich Town v Northampton Town
