Le Guen took charge of Cameroon during qualification and looked to have put the team back on course, but they failed to secure a single point in their three group games.
After the 2-1 defeat to Netherlands, he said: "My contract is coming up, and it was clear all along I would stop now. It was planned to be this way. I'm going to think about the future now, and we'll see.
"Maybe I didn't succeed in unifying the team and bringing the team together. Naturally my mood is one of defeat. I know I have lost three matches in this tournament. I will not point figures or accuse anyone. I thought I would have got better results with this match."
