James Milner and Jermain Defoe have been named in the England starting line-up to face Slovenia.

England-Slovenia preview

Capello had been under heavy pressure to select Joe Cole for the must-win match after a lack of creativity against Algeria, but he has retained Gareth Barry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard while selecting Milner in place of Aaron Lennon.

In attack, Emile Heskey pays the price for his performance on Friday, with Defoe given the chance to partner Wayne Rooney.

David James keeps his place in goal after an assured performance while, as Capello had already confirmed, Matthew Upson partners John Terry in defence.

England team: James, Johnson, Upson, Terry, A Cole, Milner, Lampard, Barry, Gerrard, Defoe, Rooney.
Slovenia team: S Handanovic, Brecko, Suler, Cesar, Jokic, Birsa, Koren, Radosavljevic, Kirm, Ljubijankic, Novakovic.
