In-form Velez Sarsfield win again

Velez Sarsfield continued their good form by beating Venezuela's Deportivo Italia away from home to take the lead in Group Seven of the Copa Libertadores.

Velez, who also top the Argentinian league, claimed their second Copa Libertadores win in as many games thanks to a goal from Hernan Rodrigo Lopez.

The Uruguayan striker turned the ball home following a Nicolas Cabrera corner to grab the winner eight minutes into the second half.

Although pleased with the victory, Velez midfielder Leandro Somoza felt his side should have won by a bigger margin.

He told Fox Sports:"We kept control of the ball but we were not good at finishing. If we consider the 90 minutes, we won deservedly.

"They (Deportivo Italia) made things difficult for us with high balls but we managed to claim an important victory. We already defeated big rivals Cruzeiro (2-0) at home and tonight we took three very valuable points back home.''

Internacional of Brazil came back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 triumph over Ecuador's Emelec in both teams' Libertadores debut in Group Five.

In the 48th minute, David Quiroz surprised home fans at the Estadio Beira-Rio by profiting from a defensive mistake to beat Inter's debutant keeper Roberto Abbondanzieri, who recently joined from Boca Juniors.

However, Jorge Fossati's team reacted and needed only four minutes to equalise thanks to a long-distance shot by Nei. With only three minutes remaining, Walter set up Alecsandro, who finally beat Emelec custodian Marcelo Elizaga.

"Inter have never won their first Copa Libertadores match before. The start is always difficult. We all fought. We are a strong team,'' Alecsandro said.

Finally, in Mexico, Uruguayan giants Nacional failed to take the lead in Group Four as they played out a goalless draw with Morelia.
