Embattled Chelsea captain John Terry has thanked the club's fans for their support in the wake of allegations about his private life.

Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by Fabio Capello as a result of his alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-girlfriend of former Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge.

The 29-year-old has refused to comment on the allegations but broke his silence to speak to the club's tv channel after Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"On a personal note I would like to thank every single fan," Terry told Chelsea TV. "It's been an emotional day for myself and how the fans have been with me over the last two weeks has been quite incredible.

"I didn't expect that today and I would like to thank every single individual fan for the way they treated me. It was a great performance and, I mean it from my heart, I would like to thank everyone.''
