West Brom will give their backing to the Disasters Emergency Committee's Haiti Appeal by wearing shirts promoting the campaign in tonight's match against Newcastle.

The Pan American Health Organisation have estimated that 50,000 to 100,000 died in the 7.0-magnitude earthquake which hit Haiti last Tuesday, and many more are homeless.

The West Brom team will have the DEC Haiti Appeal's logo and website address on their match shirts for the St James' Park clash, which will be televised on Sky Sports. The shirts will later be auctioned off to raise money for the appeal.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace said: "Everyone at the club has been saddened by the terrible tragedy unfolding in Haiti.

"The images we've witnessed in the media are deeply upsetting and the number of people affected is difficult to comprehend.''

He added: "We are hoping the fact our players will be wearing the appeal logo in front of a national TV audience will make even more people aware of how they can donate money to the aid effort.''
