Vicente del Bosque will sign a two-year contract extension to stay on as Spain coach until 2012, RFEF president Angel Maria Villar has confirmed.
Del Bosque led Spain to World Cup qualification with a perfect record in Group 5, winning ten out of ten, and they are amongst the favourites to add to their Euro 2008 crown by triumphing in South Africa next summer.
The former Real Madrid coach took over from Luis Aragones following the country's victory in Austria and Switzerland and will be in place to help Spain defend the trophy when he formally signs his new contract.
"I spoke with Del Bosque to renew his contract for two years and he expressed his agreement," Villar said at the Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai. "We did not sign the renewal with Del Bosque, but his word is important.
"We have full confidence in our coach because of the results achieved so far and for the performances both in official competitions and friendlies.''
Spain have played with considerable style under Del Bosque but suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of United States in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup in June.
