Brentford's lead at the top of League Two is down to five points after their draw against promotion rivals Gillingham.

David Hunt smashed home the opener direct from a free-kick three minutes before half-time - but Simeon Jackson's penalty, his 18th goal of the season, gave the visitors a deserved equaliser after the break.

Bury moved up to second with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth, Andrew Morrell executing a simple volley 10 minutes after the break - and Rochdale slid to third after drawing 2-2 with Exeter at Spotland, veteran Marcus Stewart twice equalising for the visitors, who stay sixth.

In the day's early kick-off, Wycombe were held to a 1-1 draw at Adams Park by Shrewsbury - meaning the Chairboys are now fifth, having led the division at the start of last month.

They took the lead on the half-hour, Lee Sawyer seizing on a loose clearance and laying it off to captain Gary Holt - who coolly looped the ball in off the bar.

But the scoreline belied what was a dominant performance from the Shrews, who continued to exert pressure on their hosts and found their reward with 15 minutes to go - Ben Davies rounding off a smart passing move by powerfully heading home substitute Steven Leslie's cross to keep Paul Simpson's side in seventh.

Outside the play-off spots, Bradford in eighth will be disappointed after managing only a goalless draw at second-bottom Chester - while Chesterfield maintained their push for the top seven with a Jack Lester-inspired 2-1 win at home against Port Vale.

At the other end of the table, basement boys Luton continued their bid for an improbable escape from relegation with victory at Morecambe - the Hatters coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win thanks to Kevin Gallen.

Grimsby, just above the relegation zone in 22nd, improved their chances of beating the drop with a 1-0 win over Aldershot - Barry Conlon securing the three vital points from the penalty spot in the last 10 minutes.

Elsewhere, Wayne Rooney's brother John scored his first senior goal - from 20 yards - for Macclesfield but could not prevent his side from going down 2-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

There was also a win for Darlington at Barnet, while the matches between Lincoln and Notts County and Rotherham and Accrington finished all square.
