Universidad Catolica dominated the early action and
Botinelli made the pressure tell with a well-taken goal on 30
minutes.
Deportivo San Martin had more possession in the second half
but were unable to break down a resolute Chilean defence.
Both clubs are on three points. Universidad Catolica lost
2-1 to Mexico's America in the first game while Deportivo beat
Argentina's River Plate 2-0.
In Venezuela, Caracas FC clinched a 2-1 home win against
Bolivia's Real Potosi in a Group One match.
Emilio Renteria scored after two minutes and Ronald Vargas
increased the lead before Gonzalo Galindo pulled one back for
the Bolivians with a free kick that floated beyond goalkeeper
Vicente Rosales.
Renteria continued to trouble Caracas and crashed two shots
against the crossbar.
The Venezuelan club played the second half with 10 men
after Vargas was dismissed for an ugly tackle but Real Potisi's
meandering midfield play failed to pay dividends.
Caracas lead the group with a 100 percent record after two
games, ahead of Brazil's Cruzeiro on four points.
The all-Argentine clash between Estudiantes-La plata and
Lanus ended in a 0-0 stalemate in Group Two.
