Rangers clinch deals for Alexander and Dailly

Rangers tonight completed deals for Scotland internationals Neil Alexander and Christian Dailly as Walter Smith strengthened his squad for the title run-in.

The Clydesdale Bank Premier League leaders could now move again before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

However, despite reports linking Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty with Rangers, the Clarets insisted they have not yet received an approach for the Northern Ireland international.

Goalkeeper Alexander drove straight to Glasgow from Ipswich this morning after being told of Rangers' interest by Tractor Boys manager Jim Magilton.

And the 29-year-old was delighted to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract, in a deal which will allow Derby to complete the signing of Rangers goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

Alexander told www.rangers.co.uk: ``As soon as I knew Rangers were interested in me, I didn't have to think twice about coming here. There was only going to be one answer for me.

``I'm very grateful to Ipswich for not standing in my way. My manager Jim Magilton said it was a great chance that I might never get again and I agreed.

``This is a fantastic opportunity to come to one of the biggest clubs in Europe and I'm over the moon.''
