Takahara returns home to Urawa Reds

TOKYO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Japan striker Naohiro Takahara has agreed terms with Urawa Reds after a difficult season with German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 28-year-old will join the Asian champions for a fee of around $1.7 million subject to passing a medical on his return to Japan this week.

Urawa were hoping to send Shinji Ono in the opposite direction but the Japan midfielder's proposed move to Bundesliga side Bochum looks to have been put on ice.

Ono, once Japan's brightest light, was a member of three Japan World Cup squads and helped Dutch club Feyenoord win the UEFA Cup in 2002.

He returned to Urawa in 2006 but has failed to claim a regular place because of ankle trouble.

Takahara established himself in Europe at Hamburg from 2002 to 2006 but the former Boca Juniors striker has gone off the boil after a solid first season with Frankfurt.
