Patterson leaves Knights for Sydney FC

New Zealand Knights interim chief executive Bob Patterson has left the embattled A-League soccer club.

His departure was announced on Tuesday by the Auckland-based club's chairman Anthony Lee.

Lee said Patterson left on good terms with the club to accept an offer with rival A-League franchise Sydney FC.

He said Patterson had already stayed beyond his initial contract and the search was already well advanced for a permanent replacement.

In the meantime, the chief executive's responsibilities would be shared by existing staff, including new director of football Barry Simmonds, while Lee would focus exclusively on Knights business.

The Knights have struggled on the field again this season, their home win over Queensland on Sunday being just their second of the campaign.

They sit last of the eight teams, on seven points after 11 matches.
