Belgian Depireux named DR Congo coach

KINSHASA, July 6 (Reuters) - Belgian Henri Depireux was appointed coach of Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday.

The 62-year-old has signed a two-year contract, said the Congolese Football Federation.

He replaces Frenchman Claude LeRoy, who took the side to the quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup in Egypt earlier this year.

Depireux led Cameroon to the 1998 World Cup finals but was fired after a quarter-final exit at the African Nations Cup the same year.

He has previously coached in Belgium, France, Portugal and Switzerland.

Depireux's first match in charge will be the 2008 Nations Cup qualifier against Namibia in Kinshasa on Sept. 3.
