Reyna extends contract with Man City

American midfielder Claudio Reyna has signed a new one-year deal with Manchester City.

The 32-year-old, currently sidelined with an ankle injury, was due to be out of contract this summer.

However, he will now head off to the World Cup finals in Germany with his immediate future secured.

Reyna told the club's official website: 'I'm excited about the deal.

'I was looking forward to signing the extension, the club's going in the right direction and it's nice because we have everything in place to continue the success over the next few years.

'It'll be nice to represent the club at the World Cup and it's just nice to know your future too - and that the manager knows that I'd like to stay here.

'I like where the club's going and it's a great place to play your football. There's really nowhere else I'd like to go.'

Reyna joined City for 2.5million from Sunderland in August 2003 and has made 53 appearances for the Blues, scoring four times.

He had previously moved from Rangers to Wearside for 4million in December 2001 and was a leading member of the USA team which reached the World Cup quarter-finals the following summer.

Reyna figured in 14 matches for Stuart Pearce's side this season before being injured last month.
