Blades sign Flitcroft from Blackburn
Sheffield United have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Garry Flitcroft from Blackburn.
The 33-year-old has found himself frozen out at Ewood Park this season, making
just two appearances for the Premiership club, and Blades boss Neil Warnock was
delighted to add his experience to his promotion-chasing squad.
Warnock said: 'He brings leadership to the midfield. He's seen it
all and done it all with Blackburn.
'I just felt that we needed someone else in the midfield in case (Phil)
Jagielka gets an injury.
'We've missed a leader since Stuart McCall left and I felt it was the right
time to bring him here.'
Flitcroft joined Rovers from Manchester City for £3.5million in March 1996,
going on to make 281 appearances for the club, and Warnock admitted it was not
the first time he had tried to sign the player.
'We tried to bring him here in November but he felt he could get back in the
Blackburn team,' he added.
'It's now the right time to bring him here.'
