NEW YORK -- Jason Garey signed with Major League Soccer on Wednesday after leading Maryland to its first NCAA soccer title in 37 years and winning the Hermann Trophy, given to the top college player.
MLS also announced the signings of midfielders Brian Plotkin of Indiana and Mehdi Ballouchy of Santa Clara, and forward Yura Movsisyan of Pasadena City College. All are eligible for the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 20 in Philadelphia.
The four are among 74 players scheduled to participate at the MLS Combine, which runs from Thursday to Sunday in Carson, Calif.
Garey led the nation with 22 goals last season and completed his career as the Terrapins' leading scorer with 60. Maryland beat New Mexico 1-0 for the NCAA title on Dec. 12.
Plotkin helped Indiana to consecutive NCAA titles in 2003 and 2004, and Ballouchy is a former member of Morocco's under-17 team. Movsisyan is an 18-year-old from Azerbaijan who scored 18 goals for Pasadena City College last season.
