Willem II Tilburg sack coach Maaskant

AMSTERDAM, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Dutch first division strugglers Willem II Tilburg sacked coach Robert Maaskant on Monday after a disappointing start to the season.

The club said in a statement that it was necessary to replace Maaskant, who joined in 2004, in an attempt to turn the tide.

Tilburg are 17th in the 18-team league with eight points from 12 matches. They were knocked out of the first round of the UEFA cup by Monaco 5-1 on aggregate in September.
