Jones brace seals quarter-finals spot

Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones has fired the Caribbean nation into the Gold Cup quarter-finals with his brace of goals ensuring a 2-0 victory over Honduras.

• Mexico through to finals

Knowing anything less than victory against the Group B leaders could bundle them out of the tournament, Trinidad and Tobago were forced to wait until the second-half before Jones could ease any fears.

The Premier League based striker scored the opener just after the break before grabbing his second on the 67th minute mark.

Honduras defender Jose David Velasquez was shown a straight red card just before half-time.

Meanwhile, El Salvador moved through to the quarter-finals after beating Haiti 1-0.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless draw until the 76th minute when the referee awarded a penalty after a foul by Haiti's Jean Marc Alexandre.

And despite goalkeeper Frandy Montrevil saving the resulting spot-kick, El Salvador striker Rodolfo Zelaya was on hand to sweep home the rebound.

Haiti are eliminated from the competition after finishing last on three points in Group B.
