Puncheon tips Shaw for England

ESPN staff

Jason Puncheon believes Southampton team-mate Luke Shaw is capable of forcing his way into the England reckoning in time for the 2014 World Cup.

Shaw, 17, has emerged as one of the surprise stars of Southampton's season on their return to the Premier League and has been linked with Chelsea.

He has a lot of competition for the left-back berth in Roy Hodgson's side, namely Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines and Kieran Gibbs. But Puncheon thinks Shaw has the ability to claim a place in the squad.

"Yeah, Luke will definitely play for England definitely no shadow of a doubt," he said. "He is England class and must have an outside chance of going to Brazil."

Since signing for Southampton in 2010 Puncheon has spent time on loan with Millwall, Blackpool and QPR but after signing a contract which will keep him at the club until 2016 he finally feels settled.

"It's football and weird things happen. You have got to make the best out of any situation. It went well at Blackpool, not so well at QPR, but I'm now very happy at Southampton," he added.

"I think you make mistakes as a player and as a human being, I've made mine learned from them and am now playing well and enjoying my football."
