Debuchy withdraws from France squad

Mathieu Debuchy is set to miss France's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Spain due to a thigh muscle injury picked up in Newcastle's defeat to Wigan on Sunday.

France coach Didier Deschamps said on Monday that tests revealed Debuchy "has a thigh muscle tear". The former Marseille boss also confirmed that he had called up Rod Fanni as his replacement.

Deschamps has had a number of injury concerns of late, with Franck Ribery recovering from an ankle ligament problem, while Yohan Cabaye and Jeremy Menez are both nursing groin strains.

The trio were due to train separately from the rest of the squad on Monday evening, but the Les Bleus boss said "they should train with the rest of the squad'' on Tuesday.

Georgia arrive in Paris this week for Friday's Group I encounter before reigning European and world champions Spain head to the French capital to face France four days later.
