Herbert to quit Phoenix: report

Ricki Herbert is poised to announce his resignation as Wellington Phoenix coach, according to a media report.

RadioLIVE says Herbert will stand down on Tuesday, ending a six-year tenure.

The 51-year-old won't lead the club, currently bottom of the league, in their A-League home match against Newcastle Jets on Wednesday.

The report said assistant coach Chris Greenacre will take charge of the side for that game and the remainder of the season.

All Whites coach Herbert has held the Phoenix role since the club was formed in 2007.

He was handed a new two-year deal at the club this season but they have managed just five points from a possible 27 in 2013 and sit last on the table with 21 points.

They drew 2-2 against Adelaide in Wellington on Sunday.

Calls to club management seeking comment were not immediately returned.
