Santos coach Muricy Ramalho has told Neymar he must learn to keep out of trouble after he was shown a red card during the team's 3-1 loss to Ponte Preta on Sunday.

Neymar was dismissed in injury time at the end of the first half in the Paulista championship match when he became involved in a spat with Ponte Preta defender Arthur as they clashed during a Santos attack.

The pair began pointing the finger at one another, with Neymar slapping Arthur's hand when he raised it to his face, and the Brazil forward then went to ground. Both players argued with the referee and were dismissed.

"He needs to keep out of trouble," Ramalho said, with Neymar having now been sent off five times since the start of his professional career in 2009. "He has to get used to this."

He added: "These things happen in football - one man pushes the other in the chest. Neither player did anything really big, but it's up to the referee."

Ramalho said that "football was the biggest loser" following the referee's decision, and Neymar agreed with his sentiment.

"I don't know what happened. We were challenging for the ball, I got kicked and was sent off," Neymar said, according to Reuters. "Neither of us should have been sent off. Football is getting really boring, for the players, supporters and television viewers."
