Chianese re-signs with Sydney FC

Sydney FC continued their recruitment and retention drive by re-signing young striker Joel Chianese on Monday for the next A-League season.

The announcement comes just two days after the shock move by Socceroos striker Lucas Neill to reject the Melbourne Heart and link up with Sky Blues' coach Frank Farina, who only last Thursday committed through to the end of the 2014-15 season.

Chianese, who is a product of the Sydney FC youth team, has scored six goals in 16 appearances for the Sky Blues since making his debut last season.

Injury has limited him to just six appearances in 2012-13, but the 23-year-old is ready to help the fifth-placed Sky Blues secure a finals berth.

"The club has shown a lot of faith in me ... and I want to make sure I repay that faith," Chianese said.

"There is a really good feeling at the club at the moment."

Farina has been impressed with the youngster over the past three months.

"He's quick and makes very intelligent forward runs so it's good to have him on board for next season," said Farina.

The club will turn their attention to locking in Italian superstar Alessandro Del Piero for next season.
