Borini, who missed a large chunk of the the campign after fracturing his foot in October, landed heavily late on after an aerial challenge, leaving Liverpool with ten men for the closing stages.

The Italian, signed from AS Roma for a fee of £11 million, made 15 appearances for Liverpool in his first season in English football, scoring just once.

After their victory Brendan Rodgers said of Borini: "He will probably be out for the season. It looks like he has dislocated his shoulder.

"It's unfortunate because it's the other shoulder, he had the same injury at Chelsea. It looks like, early stages, that that's the diagnosis."
