Szczesny: I can do better

ESPN staff

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny believes he is far from the finished product ahead of next week's crucial Champions League match against German giants Bayern Munich.

Arsenal secured a vital 1-0 victory over Sunderland last Saturday, but a red card to Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson left the Arsenal rear-guard exposed for the latter stages of the second half.

And Szczesny, depsite keeping a clean sheet, admitted he could have done better to deter the Black Cats' strikers and prove coach Arsene Wenger wrong when he commented that his 'keeper was suffering from a 'lack of confidence'.

"I made a couple of saves that helped the team win the game and I'm happy for that but there is a lot of work still to be done," the 22-year-old said.

"I still struggled a little bit on crosses so I would have been happier with a faultless performance."

The win keeps Arsenal in fifth position on the Premier League table and four points within touching distance of a lucrative Champions League spot.

However, Arsenal now turn their focus to this season's Champions League and next week's visit of runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

But a confident Szczesny said the Sunderland victory showed the north London club would not be cowed by last season's defeated Champions League finalists.

"We showed people we have what it takes to be successful and showed character and desire to get the result," Szczesny said.
