Houston leaves Dundee United

Dundee United have confirmed that manager Peter Houston has left the club by mutual consent.

Houston, 54, was set to leave the SPL club at the end of the season after announcing earlier in January that he would not be renewing his contract, which was due to expire in the summer.

However, Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Ross County proved to be his final match in charge at Tannadice.

A brief statement on the club's official website said: "He leaves with the thanks of everyone at the Club and best wishes for the future."

Falkirk manager Steven Pressley is in line to replace Houston, having confirmed at the weekend that he would hold talks with the club over joining them in the summer.

"They are very keen to meet me and speak with me on the vacant position, but I've been concentrating on what was a big week for us and I'll do that again until anything changes," he said.

"I've stressed loads of times my happiness here at this football club and that hasn't changed. I'm very happy here and enjoying my football and until anything changes that's how it will remain."

It remains to be seen whether Houston's early departure will accelerate the recruitment process, or if Dundee United will choose a temporary solution for the remainder of the campaign.
