Wanderers comeback stuns Roar

ESPN staff

Western Sydney Wanderers have continued their strong run of form this season with a 2-1 win over a struggling Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

It was the hosts who grabbed the ascendency early on when Mitch Nichols found the back of the net, but goals to Mark Bridge and Youssouf Hersi allowed the Wanderers to move clear in fourth spot on the A-League ladder.

Brisbane dominated the early stages and it didn't take long for their efforts to be rewarded when Luke Brattan made a darting run into the box, only for Wanderers defender Jerome Polenz to deflect the ball into the path of Nichols who finished from close range.

The hosts finished the half with incredible momentum as Western Sydney failed to pose any serious threat to the Roar defence. But the Wanderers emerged from the break with the impetus, surging forward and creating a number of chances through Bridge and Labinot Haliti.

Shortly after Haliti's half volley grazed the crossbar, Bridge received the ball on the edge of the box and sent a tidy low shot past Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo for the equaliser.

That was enough to spur the game into life and Western Sydney sealed the win just four minutes later when Dino Kresinger flicked on a long ball which Hersi latched onto and finished at the near post after a mazy run into the box.

Yellow cards to Besart Berisha and Shane Stefanutto mean they will miss Brisbane's clash with Perth next week - major losses with the Roar languishing just one point from the bottom.
