Fredy Montero bids adios to Seattle

Associated Press

Even though Fredy Montero tweeted the news of his own transfer loan from the Seattle Sounders to Colombian league title defender Millonarios, Sounders owner and GM Adrian Hanauer said Thursday that the deal is still not complete.

"We are finalizing the loan of Fredy Montero to Millonarios of Colombia for the 2013 MLS season. We hope to have this transaction completed in the next few days," Hanauer said in a statement on the club's website. "Fredy has been a tremendous part of our success the last four years and this decision was not taken lightly. This was a process that Fredy and the Sounders cooperated on, and our hope is that it works out successfully for both parties."

Montero posted a farewell to Twitter Wednesday.

"Seattle you will always be in my heart and be my second home," the 25-year-old forward wrote. "I will be back one day! Until then I wish you all the best."

Montero was the franchise's all-time leading scorer. Millonarios preseason training starts Thursday.
