Daniel Sturridge heads to Liverpool

Press Association

Daniel Sturridge completed a move from Chelsea to Liverpool on a long-term contract, Liverpool confirmed Wednesday.

The striker leaves Chelsea after 3 1/2 years at the club, during which he started 49 games with 47 appearances as a substitute. He scored 24 goals.

The 23-year-old signed a long-term contract at Anfield after struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge. He became Liverpool's first signing of the January transfer window.

"I am humbled and happy to be here," said Sturridge. "Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time, and I also see myself here for a long time. I've not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.

Sturridge joined from Manchester City in the summer of 2009 as a 19-year-old.
