Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday downplayed the importance of his current contract renewal, instead focusing on his desire for "a perfect start to the year."

"The most important thing is to win the upcoming matches. We are fighting to win the league, the cup and the Champions League," Ronaldo said during the team's press conference ahead of Sunday's match vs. Real Sociedad. "All of us are excited. I feel great at the club and I hope to do my best as always. I am very happy and hope to answer the questions in the best way, which is by playing well and giving my all for this shirt."

Asked about his contract renewal, Ronaldo said he would not speak in depth to the question and that he was focused on "the important task of winning our next matches."

Regarding Monday's Ballon d'Or winner announcement, Ronaldo said: "I would love to win the Ballon d'Or, but my life won't end if I don't. It won't affect my way of being even minimally, nor my way of wanting to keep winning."

About the upcoming Copa del Rey, Ronaldo said "we are playing at home, we are the favorites and we have to believe that we can win."
