Central Coast move four clear

PA Sport

A rare Pedj Bojic brace secured Central Coast Mariners a 2-0 win against Melbourne Heart at Bluetongue Stadium.

The triumph sees Central Coast extend their lead at the top of the table to four points with second placed Adelaide playing Wellington on Sunday.

The fun started for Bojic in the 49th minute after a calamitous error from Melbourne Heart goalkeeper Clint Bolton - one of the most consistent custodians in the A-League.

A Bojic strike from 25 yards appeared to only require a regulation save but the ball slipped through Bolton's hands, then his legs and over the goal line.

Bolton was seemingly unsighted 20 minutes later after a dipping Bojic free-kick passed the Melbourne Heart defensive wall and fired the Mariners to a fourth straight win.

Perth Glory midfielder Travis Dodd scored a brace and Shane Smeltz chipped in with a controversial goal to inspire a 3-0 victory over Newcastle Jets at nib Stadium.

The Jets entered the match with a cloud hanging over their future after the Australian Tax Office applied to have both the soccer club and NRL outfit Newcastle Knights wound up due to unpaid debts.

And the week got worse for the Jets when Dodd scored in the 45th and 49th minutes, before Smeltz won and converted a questionable penalty in the 75th minute.

Perth's first win in six games lifted them from eighth into fourth in the table, while the Jets, who have lost four of their past five games, slipped to sixth.
