Cox upbeat over fitness

Nottingham Forest striker Simon Cox has revealed he is making good progress from the foot injury he sustained during last month's 2-1 victory at Wolves.

After scans revealed Cox had suffered ligament damage, it had been expected that he would be out for around two months, but the Republic of Ireland striker is upbeat about the healing process.

"I feel good, I'm progressing day by day and hopefully it won't be too much longer," he told the club's official website. "I've been away for a week and a bit of warm weather has helped me. I'm not on crutches any more or using the air cast boot - I'm walking around pain-free.

"I'm quite fortunate insomuch that I seem to recover from injuries pretty quickly but I know I need to get my ankle right before I really push on. It's a case of so far so good but I don't want to rush things and jeopardise the way things have gone."

Meanwhile, fellow striker Dexter Blackstock has revealed he has not held any discussions over a contract extension.

Blackstock, who moved to the City Ground from Queens Park Rangers in 2009, is out of contract in the summer and is eager to sign a new deal.

"It is not that hard to get hold of me," he told the Nottingham Post. "People know where I am! There has not been any movement. There have not been any talks. I don't know what I can say... I am here.

"We are in mid-December now, almost. January is almost here. But what can I do? I have a great rapport with the fans, I love being here. It is a great club to play for and I hope that continues, but I have not been offered a contract."

Forest have seen a number of players depart the club on free transfers in recent times, including Kris Commons, Kelvin Wilson and Garath McCleary.
