Cole's mother denies Facebook posts

Ashley Cole's mother Sue has denied posting comments on Facebook which appear to celebrate Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand being struck in the face by a coin.

• Young: Rio had lucky escape

Ferdinand was hit by a two pence coin thrown from the crowd during the closing stages of United's 3-2 Premier League win against Manchester City on Sunday and ended up requiring treatment on the cut just above his left eye.

Reports in the Daily Mirror revealed posts between the Chelsea and England defender's mother, and brother Matty, which appear to revel in Ferdinand's plight.

Matty posted: "So happy Rio got hit in the face today when he tried to give it kissing his badge!! Straight in the eye!! Made my day."

He is also reported to have said: "They'll show it on MoTD sooooo funny lol."

An hour later, Sue added her views, saying "Bloody missed that, ha ha ha", before adding: "Give the fan that threw it a medal!!!"

Ferdinand was later pictured at the X Factor final on Sunday evening, leading Sue to write a further comment on Matty's Facebook page: "Rio in audience at x factor, wonder if he can see?????"

Matty, 28, added: "He talks like he sucking an egg!! Rubber lip lol."

But when approached by reporters outside her home in Essex on Monday night Sue made a firm denial of her involvement in the incident.

She said: "Who has put that on? I don't know who has done that. It wasn't me."

The comments were removed five minutes later. Matty was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Daily Mirror.

Ashley Cole's advisors will contact him in Japan ahead of the Club World Cup as they investigate what really happened regarding the taunts to Ferdinand.
